Solid accounting software

I signed up for Sage 50 Accounts a few months ago for our growing business. The ordering process online was clear, and I appreciated the detailed plan comparisons before I committed. Delivery of the software keys and download instructions was instant, which was great. Installation was fine on our office computers, though we needed a quick call to support for a specific network setting, and they were quite helpful and patient. The software itself is robust; it handles our inventory and invoicing without a hitch. Reconciliation can be a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's powerful. It's been a significant upgrade from our previous system.

Good for my small business

I grabbed Sage Business Cloud Accounting last month. Setting it up was pretty straightforward, even for me who isn't super techy. It's been good for keeping track of my invoices, which was a mess before. The interface is clean and it just works, you know? Definitely made my life a bit easier. No complaints really.

Anyone know if there's a good deal for new Sage customers right now? Looking at Sage 50cloud, but don't wanna pay full price if there's an intro offer.

F Faith Osei 1 month ago
They almost always have some kind of intro discount, like 50% off for a few months. Check their site, it usually applies automatically.

I got 3 months free on Sage Accounting when I signed up last spring. Sometimes they do that or a percentage off for new folks. Just make sure you're a new customer.

Thinking of switching from QuickBooks to Sage for my small business, specifically Sage Business Cloud. Is it easy to get started? Like, can I move my old data over without a huge headache?

M Mark L. 2 months ago
Yeah, I switched last year. They actually have services to help with data migration, I used it and it was pretty smooth. Saved me a lot of time.

I think you might have to pay extra for that migration service but it's probably worth it if you have a lot of historical data. Worth asking them about during the setup process.

How does Sage compare to Xero? My friend swears by Xero but I've heard good things about Sage too for small businesses. Is one significantly better for a solo entrepreneur?

J Julia 2 months ago
I used Xero for a bit then switched to Sage Business Cloud. Sage felt a bit more robust for reporting, but Xero was super simple to start with. Depends on how complex your needs are.

For a sole trader, both are pretty good. Sage has a lot of different products so you can probably find one that fits. Xero is usually seen as very user-friendly. Honestly, try both if you can with free trials.

Hey, looking at Sage Payroll for my small team. Does it integrate well with their accounting software or is it kind of a standalone thing?

J Josh 2 months ago
It's pretty integrated if you use their other stuff like Sage Business Cloud Accounting. That's kinda the point, makes things easier.

My accountant said it's all part of the same ecosystem so it should play nice together. Like, less manual entry between payroll and your books.

is sage software compatible with mac? My whole office runs on apple products and I don't want to buy something that won't work.

N Nick H. 2 months ago
Some of their stuff, like Sage Business Cloud, is web-based so it works fine on Mac. For Sage 50, you'd probably need a workaround like Parallels though, afaik.

Yeah, it depends on the specific product. Cloud versions are usually fine, but the desktop ones are more Windows-centric. Best to check the system requirements for the exact one you're looking at.
